1 · The license
1.1 What you acquire. A personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use Equilibrio. You do not acquire ownership of the software or rights to its code. It is a one-time payment. The license does not expire: it comes with a number of uses, and each new installation spends one (section 2).
1.2 Who it is for. You and your household, within your key's number of uses. Each use corresponds to one installation of the application: a browser, with its profile and the data it keeps for this site. It is not necessarily a physical device. Reselling, redistributing or publishing the key is not permitted.
1.3 A key is required. Without an activated key, information cannot be recorded. If you restore a backup in an installation that never had a key, the application stays read-only.
1.4 What read-only means. It is a mode in which you see all your information and can export it, but you cannot create, edit or delete records. Clause 3.2 explains when it happens and what remains available.
2 · Uses and installation identifier
2.1 What spends a use. Each key comes with a number of uses, stated at purchase. Activating the key in a new installation spends one use. To recognize the installation, the browser creates a random identifier: a code that says nothing about you or your device. It stores it in the space it reserves for this site. With the key and that code, the server recognizes the same installation without creating a device fingerprint. It does not identify hardware and is not necessarily a physical device.
2.2 How many. The holder decides which installations to spend the uses on. Reopening the application, entering the same key again or verifying it does not spend another use while that installation keeps its identifier. The same key can be activated in more than one browser or profile on the same phone or computer; each one may count as a different installation. In Settings, License, the application shows, when the server reports it, how many uses the key has spent and how many it has.
2.3 Activating the key requires internet, because the key is confirmed with the server. Afterwards, the application works offline. When it has internet, it verifies the key on its own: when it opens, when you return to it and every 5 minutes while it is open. Each verification lasts 30 days. If 30 days pass without a verification, the application keeps working for 7 more days with a notice. After that it becomes read-only until it connects to the internet and verifies the key.
2.4 If activation data is lost. Uninstalling may remove activation data, depending on the browser or system. The installation identity is also lost if you clear site data or if the browser or phone removes it to free space. In that case, activating again is treated as a new installation and spends another use. This is not a new charge, but it does spend one of the available uses. Private or incognito sessions may remove their data when closed; they are not suitable when you want to keep an activation.
2.5 Deleting, resetting and importing. The Delete records action deletes the application’s financial records, but keeps the installation identifier, the license and the Gmail link locally, and touches nothing on the server. It is not available in read-only mode. The Reset this device action also deletes the license, the key, that identifier and the Gmail links, and leaves the application as if freshly installed. It is always available, including in read-only mode.
Reset this device also unlinks your Gmail addresses. If they cannot be unlinked, for example because there is no internet connection, nothing is deleted and the application offers you Reset anyway: in that case, the link stays active until you remove it from Manage devices in the add-on, or until it expires after 90 days without use. It can no longer be removed with Forget this email in the application.
Neither action releases a use: the server keeps the record of each installation. After a reset, activating the key again in that browser counts as a new installation and spends another use. Importing a backup does not include, transfer or clear the identifier, so it does not spend another use in the same recognized installation. Retention periods are described in the privacy policy.
2.6 Exhaustion and key refusal. Uses are not transferred or reassigned, and no action in the application releases them. Exhausting them does not modify or revoke the acquired license. Once they are exhausted, activating the key in new installations is refused; installations already recognized keep using it as long as it has not been suspended. If the application refuses the key, the message states the reason: that it does not exist, that it was suspended, that its uses are exhausted or that it could not be verified.
3 · Your data, and when the application becomes read-only
3.1 It is yours. The information you enter belongs to you. No rights over it are claimed. You may export it whenever you wish, and delete it with Delete records or, in read-only mode, with Reset this device.
3.2 Read-only mode does not lock you in. The license does not expire, but the application becomes read-only in these cases: if about 37 days pass without being able to verify the key with the server (clause 2.3), if the key was suspended (clause 3.3), if the verification stored on the device cannot be checked, or if you restore a backup in an installation without an activated key. In read-only mode you can view all your information, export and import backups, reset the device, and change the language and color. You cannot create, edit or delete anything else: transactions, accounts, people, fixed expenses, budget, pending items, currencies, exchange rate, name or display setting. You also cannot use the Delete records action or link or unlink Gmail. You may activate a key at any time, and you can reset the device if you wish to leave. Your information is never held behind a license.
3.3 Suspension. A key may be suspended if use outside these terms is detected, such as publishing it or using it fraudulently. Exhausting the uses is not grounds for suspension or revocation. The application detects the suspension at its next verification with internet and stays in the same read-only state described in clause 3.2: your data remains visible and exportable.
3.4 Backups are your responsibility. Your data lives on your device, and maintaining backups is up to you. If you lose or reset the device, or clear browser data without exporting a backup or having one in Backup in Equilibrio, that information cannot be recovered: it does not exist anywhere else.
The application asks the browser to protect your data from automatic storage cleanup and warns you when the browser does not provide that guarantee. However, the browser grants that protection, not the application, and a phone running low on storage may delete any website's data. Exporting backups regularly is the only reliable defense.
3.5 Backup in Equilibrio. It is optional: without turning it on, your records do not leave the device. If you turn it on, the application compresses and encrypts a copy of your data with a password you choose, and uploads it to the Equilibrio server. Each backup has a limit of 5 MB: a larger one is not uploaded, and the previous one stays as it was. A license allows as many active backups as it has uses; the ones in the trash do not count. Backups in Equilibrio are tied to a license: without one they cannot be obtained. The password cannot be recovered: without it, nobody can open that backup. If you forget it, the application allows replacing it with a new one with another password. Replacing it does not ask for the previous password, only for typing the backup's name, so any activated installation of the license can do it. If the device that last uploaded it replaces it, the previous one is deleted immediately. If another one replaces it, the previous one stays 30 days in the server's trash, where it can be recovered with its password, and the new one carries the notice that it was replaced from another device. If the license's trash already holds as many backups as the license has uses, another device cannot replace it until one leaves the trash.
Automatic mode backs up when you open the application or return to it, if the chosen time has passed: a day, a week or a month. If you don't open the application, it doesn't back up. In that mode, the device stores an upload key and the encryption key, never the password: with them it can only upload, and downloading, deleting, changing the password and recovering from the trash ask for it. In read-only mode, the cloud backup can still be uploaded, downloaded and deleted, if that installation has the key activated: the server only serves activated installations, also with a suspended key. Delete records and Reset this device do not delete the cloud backup. What is stored and for how long is described in the privacy policy.
4 · What Equilibrio is, and what it is not
4.1 It is not financial advice. It is a tool for organizing and recording information. It does not constitute financial, accounting, tax or investment advice. Decisions you make using that information are your own.
4.2 Notification reading is an aid, not a certification. It is designed to save typing and always shows what it understood before saving anything. You are responsible for checking that the data is correct before confirming. Compare transactions with your receipts and account statements.
4.3 It does not move money. It is not a bank or financial institution. It does not process payments or transfers. It only records what has already happened.
5 · Availability, payments and liability
5.1 Availability. The application works offline for up to 30 days after its last verification, plus 7 days with a notice. Activating and verifying the key, notification delivery and Backup in Equilibrio depend on external services. If the verification cannot be renewed within that period, the application becomes read-only, allowing you to view and export data still available on the device.
5.2 Purchases and refunds. Equilibrio is acquired through a paid license and does not offer free trial periods. Payments are non-refundable, except for duplicate charges, charging or billing errors attributable to Equilibrio, or where applicable law requires a refund.
Charging errors are reported by email to [email protected], with proof of payment and a description of the problem.
This policy does not limit your rights under consumer protection law.
5.3 If the service is discontinued. If the service is closed, records will remain on your device while its data is retained. Without the server, the key verification can no longer be renewed: the application will become read-only about 37 days after its last verification, and will still let you view and export available data. The key also cannot be activated in a new installation, emails cannot be sent from Gmail, and Backup in Equilibrio cannot be used. This does not guarantee that all features will remain operational indefinitely.
5.4 Limitation of liability. The application is provided as is. To the extent permitted by applicable law, no liability is assumed for losses arising from use or inability to use it, including loss of data that has not been backed up, or for indirect damages or lost profits. To the extent permitted by applicable law, total liability is limited to the amount paid for the license.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liabilities or rights that applicable law does not allow to be excluded or limited, including consumer protection rights.
6 · Changes, applicable law and contact
6.1 Changes. These terms may be updated. The date above identifies the applicable version. If they change, that date is updated and the application asks you to accept the new version when it opens with that update. If you do not accept it, the application cannot be used, and you can export an encrypted backup.
6.2 Applicable law and jurisdiction. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Costa Rica. Disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the competent courts in accordance with applicable law.
6.3 Purchases from other countries. The service is operated from Costa Rica and uses provider infrastructure that may process information in other countries. Non-waivable rights recognized by applicable law remain in place.
